Top Ten Staten Island Fall Activities

The first day of autumn has arrived and we are excited! Begin getting ready for the change of weather with cozy sweaters, hats, and warm drinks. Do not forget to also kick off the season with a To-Do list perfect for Staten Island fall activities!

  1. Fall Decor. Swap your throw pillows and blankets for ones that are rich in fall hues. Bring in the scent of the season as well with air fresheners and candles that smell like pumpkins, apple cinnamon, and vanilla.
  2. Go to a local fall festival. There are many that take place around New York City, but why not attend one right here on Staten Island. On October 10th, head over to Willowbrook Park for a day filled with face painting, pumpkin picking, carousel rides, and seasonal crafts. (Free admissions, fees for activities). There is also a free festival on October 18th at the Joe Holzka Community Garden, that will have picking and carving pumpkins, enjoyable seasonal crafts, and live music.
  3. Watch the leaves change. Take a hike to admire the changing leaves during this season. We highly recommend you head on over to your nearest park’s nature trails and enjoy the autumn breeze, especially before it gets too cold out!
  4. Go Apple Picking. After this outing, you can bring your freshly picked produce home and spend the rest of the day making apple pie!
  5. Go pumpkin picking. This task can even be local if you head over to Decker Farm, apart of Historic Richmondtown. This is also another task you can bring home and enjoy by making yummy treats or just simply painting the pumpkins to use as centerpieces and lawn dressings.
  6. Go to a football game. Go to a local team event, or you can head out to Metlife Stadium to enjoy a New York Jets or Giants game. Root your team on!
  7. Watch Halloween Specials on TV. They are all about to begin! From the Syfy channel playing Horror movies during the month of October to ABC Family starting its 19 nights of Halloween on October 19th. Let us not forget that AMC’s Fear Fest should be right around the corner as well. Cozy up with your new fall-inspired throw pillows and blankets, relax, and watch!
  8. Begin planning Halloween. Figure out what you want to dress up as, what you will be doing, and begin decorating. Keep checking our Facebook page for the announcement of our 2015 Halloween Decorating Contest!
  9. Host an autumn gathering. Have a night by a fire pit in your backyard with friends. Bring out all your tasty treats you baked up after apple and pumpkin picking. Do not have a fire pit? Don’t worry; there are other ways to enjoy an autumn gathering. Have a pumpkin beer tasting instead.
  10. Visit a haunted place. You can either visit one of Staten Island’s haunted places or track out to Manhattan, New Jersey, Philadelphia, or Upstate New York for their haunted prisons, farms, corn mazes, and mansion attractions.
